Périgord Pourpre is located in the south-west of the Dordogne and owes its name to the purple colour of the vines in autumn and the colour of the wine. Well-known wines are the Bergerac wines and the Monbazillac; a sweet, white wine. Bergerac is the capital. Périgord Pourpre is also known for its Bastides: Beaumont du Périgord, Issigeac, Monpazier, Lalinde and Eymet. The bastides are recognisable by their typical architectural style and all still show the English influences and domination from the past.
