This is the real France with undulating landscape, idyllic rivers and old villages and towns. One of the most beautiful villages in the region is Puy-l'Évêque, high above the Lot River with narrow medieval streets, lovely restaurants and charming shops to explore. Visit the traditional market on Tuesday mornings where you can buy seasonal produce and local delicacies, then head to the river for the perfect picnic. Prayssac, much closer, also has a wonderful market and lots of lovely little streets to wander through. This area is also known for some of the best wines in the world and there are many excellent wineries nearby to discover. The famous town of Cahors on the River Lot is just over half an hour's drive away, while other highlights of the region include Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and Rocamadour, as well as the famous villages of the Dordogne.
